The Gamble House in Pasadena, California, is a landmark American Craftsman residence by Charles and Henry Greene, built in 1908–1909 as David and Mary Gamble’s winter home. Closely tied to its site above the Arroyo Seco, it blends Arts and Crafts ideals with Japanese influence through natural materials, hand workmanship, and custom-designed furnishings integrated with gardens and terraces. Unusually, the house survives largely intact, retaining much of its original furniture and overall design unity. Used seasonally by the Gamble family for decades, it was later preserved through family and civic stewardship and is valued as one of Greene and Greene’s best-preserved and most complete works.
