A post office was established in 1944 in the drug store of C. J. Brown, Jr., who chose the name in response to a U.S. Post Office Department request for a title suitable to the locality. Residents later made history by planting shade trees. The community became a production hub of the Permian Basin, a center of the gas processing industry, and the home of Otto’s Boys Ranch.
