Chippewa United Methodist Church was founded in 1796 in the home of Abraham Powers. An old stone church was built in 1800 north of here on Shenango Road. The first interment in the cemetery took place in 1798. After a fire in 1848 and because of growth in the church, a red brick church was built here on Old Sandusky Trail in 1857.
