Badger Mountain in Richland, Washington, is a prominent local high point above the Tri-Cities, linked to Candy Mountain by Goose Gap and known for hiking, photography, and wide views. It has two summits, with most of its slopes protected in the Badger Mountain Centennial Preserve, where native shrub-steppe vegetation largely remains intact. The mountain is part of the Yakima Fold Belt, with basalt bedrock formed by lava flows 10 to 15 million years ago. During the ice age, the Missoula Floods briefly made it an island. Its trail network, open semi-arid slopes, and intact habitat have made it one of the region’s most visited natural landmarks.
