Pyramid Peak rises in the Crystal Range of California’s Sierra Nevada, west of Lake Tahoe, and stands as the highest point in the Desolation Wilderness. The mountain is part of a rugged alpine landscape distinguished by granite terrain and numerous lakes. Its best-known ascent, the Rocky Canyon route, climbs nearly 4,100 feet and is considered very arduous even though it is the most popular approach.
