Dicks Peak is a 9,974-foot summit in California’s Sierra Nevada, within the Desolation Wilderness and Eldorado National Forest. About six miles south of Lake Tahoe, it is the wilderness’s third-highest peak and is especially known for its dramatic rise above Rockbound Valley, where its west side climbs more than 2,300 feet in about a mile. Near the summit, Dicks Pass carries the Pacific Crest Trail and Tahoe Rim Trail, making the mountain a major approach for climbers and a destination for hikers pursuing prominent Sierra summits. The peak was named for Captain Dick Barter, the Hermit of Emerald Bay, who lived on Fannette Island from 1863 to 1873.
