Shuttleworth Park was the site of a 4.7 acre millpond from 1870 to 1950 that provided power, ice, and recreation, supported a nearby factory that produced chairs, wagons, iron, cheese, flour, and woolen goods, and supplied water that quelled the great fires of 1879, 1894, and 1946.
