At this location, while working as a manufacturing jeweler, A. I. Root saw the swarm of bees that began his interest in beekeeping. Here the first bee supplies were manufactured, and the early issues of his magazine, Gleanings in Bee Culture, were printed by windmill power. He moved from here in 1878.
