Nature
Forest 44 Conservation Area is a 998-acre protected tract in western St. Louis County, Missouri, near Valley Park, preserving forest and grassland as part of the Henry Shaw Ozark Corridor along the western edge of the St. Louis area. Once part of a 10,000-acre cattle ranch, this section was bought by the Missouri Department of Conservation in 1990 from the heirs of the Reinken Estates, with 40 more acres later added as the Dorothy E. Aselman Memorial Addition. Today it is mostly wooded and supports hiking, horseback riding, seasonal hunting and fishing by permit, disabled-access trails, and a staffed shooting range.
