In October 1813, Gen. Andrew Jackson marched an army of over 2,000 Tennesseans through this area to fight Creek warriors known as Red Sticks. He recruited local Cherokee warriors, including members of the Brown and Gunter families. Jackson built Fort Deposit at nearby Street's Bluff to store food and supplies transported on the Tennessee River. When those supplies failed to arrive, he ordered a spur road built north to the mills on the Flint River, crossing there at what later became Deposit Ferry Landing. That spur road joined the road south and became part of the main supply route for his troops. Fort Deposit was eventually moved to the north bank of the Tennessee River at Deposit Ferry Landing.
