Gower Gulch is a small drainage on the eastern side of Death Valley’s Black Mountains, visible from Zabriskie Point and shaped by both mining history and dramatic erosion. Named for Harry P. Gower of the Pacific Coast Borax Company, it was part of a late-19th- and early-20th-century borax landscape of mines, camps, and access roads serving ten claims. Many mine sites remain visible. The gulch also exposes several geologic formations and includes dry waterfalls and a deeply cut alluvial fan. Its most dramatic modern change came in 1941, when a flood-diversion channel redirected water into the gulch, greatly enlarging its drainage basin and accelerating severe erosion.
