Elijah Hedding served for fifty years as a minister and for twenty eight years as a bishop in the Methodist Episcopal Church. In his ministry he performed an astonishing amount of labor and endured many hardships. He was regarded as a pattern of Christian propriety and integrity and as a model bishop.
