This staff was dedicated to the veterans of all United States wars who valorously defended the flag it bears, with the Stars and Stripes waving here perpetually. It was provided by Fred Priestley Post 1174 Veterans of Foreign Wars and constructed in May 1953 under the Board of County Commissioners, with H. H. Bornholdt as chairman, Mac Childs and E. M. Arnall as commissioners, and L. W. Newcomer as county engineer.
