Nature
San Vicente Redwoods is an 8,500-acre protected open space in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Davenport, California. Acquired in 2011 by the Living Landscape Initiative, it is managed by a consortium of conservation groups as a mixed-use landscape that balances habitat protection, research, recreation, and limited timber harvest. Its forests and creeks support wildlife tied to the old-growth redwood ecosystem, including several rare regional species, and its streams supply domestic water to Santa Cruz and Davenport. After years of planning for public access, the property was heavily damaged by the CZU Lightning Complex fires in 2020, but trails opened there in 2022.
