The original gristmill and dam were established in 1872, destroyed by fire, and rebuilt as a roller mill in 1889. The mill was rebuilt in its present form in 1898 and shut down in 1955. It was restored by the Smoky Valley Historical Society for the McPherson County Old Mill Museum from 1974 to 1981.
