Since its establishment in 1961, the NASA Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, formerly Manned Spacecraft Center, has led America’s efforts in human space exploration. Its contributions include advances in life and space sciences and spacecraft development, as well as hosting Mission Control and the Astronaut Corps. It has played a vital role in all human space exploration programs from Gemini and Apollo, through Skylab and Space Shuttle, to the International Space Station, and is at the forefront of making future expeditions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond a reality.
