Built in Wichita, Kansas, in 1915 for former Kansas governor Henry Justin Allen and his wife, Elsie, the Allen–Lambe House is one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s last Prairie houses and a mature expression of his ideas about landscape, geometry, and domestic space. Its long, low design combines Prairie School horizontality with Japanese-influenced details from the period of Wright’s work on the Imperial Hotel. Inside and out, carefully coordinated materials, a sunken garden, and a terrace that visually links house and landscape create a strong indoor-outdoor unity. The residence also stood out for advanced features and later gained recognition on the National Register of Historic Places.
