Boggs Mountain, a broad volcanic highland in Lake County’s Mayacamas Mountains, rises at the southeastern end of the Clear Lake Volcanic Field and forms a drainage divide between Big Canyon Creek and Kelsey Creek. Its upper slopes and summit are largely protected within Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest. Known first as Harbin Mountain and later renamed for settler Henry C. Boggs, it became an important logging area after Boggs bought timberland in 1878. Intensive cutting supplied regional mines, later giving way to pasture and then renewed timber harvest before California bought much of the land in 1949. Today it is valued for both its geologic character and forest history.
