In the 1850’s, Chinese laborers, who were an essential part of the community, built this wall by hand stacking large natural stones. The wall extends five miles in either direction, though much of it has disintegrated over the years. This lot, along with the lot across Gephardt’s Union Turnpike and adjoining lots, are referred to in Nevada County tax records as the “China Lots” as evidence of their history.
