During the Korean Conflict, from June 27, 1950 to January 15, 1955, the United States, under the peace-keeping flag of the United Nations, went to the aid of South Korea after Communist North Korea invaded it. This bloody Cold War conflict still had peace-keeping troops there 34 years later.
