Brush Mountain East Wilderness is a protected mountain landscape in western Virginia, established in 2009 within the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests and linked to the neighboring Brush Mountain Wilderness as part of the Craig Creek Cluster. The Appalachian Trail crosses 7.5 miles of its steep, rugged ridges and valleys above Craig Creek and Trout Creek. Its varied habitats range from dry table mountain pine ridges to rich hardwood drainages, with small old-growth stands and rare shale barren communities supporting uncommon plants, butterflies, and breeding birds. The area is also known as the 1971 Brush Mountain plane crash site where Audie Murphy died.
