DeKalb County Fair
History
5
The first DeKalb County Fair was held October 15-17, 1856, on the south bank of Hickman Creek. Its buildings were destroyed by Federal troops in 1863 and rebuilt across the creek 9 years later. There, despite fire and flood, the fair has been held annually since 1872 and remains a popular event known affectionately as the "Grandpa Fair of the South".
