Dr. George Fisher, a Kaskaskia physician, lived on a farm eight miles west of here from 1806 until his death in 1820. He was the first sheriff of Randolph County in 1801, served as a member of the first and second General Assemblies of Indiana Territory from 1805 to 1808, was Speaker of the House in the First and Third General Assemblies of Illinois Territory from 1812 to 1816, and in 1818 was a member of the first Constitutional Convention.
