Larry D. Steffensen, born November 11, 1937, on a farm near Lake Norden and deceased February 23, 2004, graduated from Lake Norden High School in 1955 and attended South Dakota State University. He served as mayor of Lake Norden from 1969 to 2004, working unceasingly for the community and helping bring about much of the progress seen in the town. During his thirty-five years as mayor, he promoted Lake Norden as an excellent place to live and invest and was determined to see it grow and prosper. He was remembered as a leader with vision and passion for his hometown, deeply committed to community activities and to the economic development and well-being of Lake Norden, while also excelling as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who raised his family with strong moral values.
