Caberfae Peaks Ski and Golf Resort, near Cadillac in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, is one of the oldest ski resorts in the United States. Opened in January 1937 with a Civilian Conservation Corps-built lodge, one ski run, and a rope tow powered by a Ford Model A engine, it grew rapidly before pausing during World War II. By the mid-1950s it had become Michigan’s largest winter sports area, drawing thousands by snow train. Financial trouble in the 1960s led to its sale in 1967, but later owners expanded North and South Peaks and reshaped it into a four-season destination focused on skiing and golf.
