Founded in 1892, the University of Arizona Mineral Museum in downtown Tucson houses a major academic and public collection in the historic Pima County Courthouse. Its more than 24,000 specimens from around the world, especially from Arizona and Mexico, focus on minerals, mining, and regional geology. More than 2,000 objects are displayed, including meteorites, micromounts, mining artifacts, and oil paintings by William Davidson White depicting miners and mining. Located in the center of Tucson rather than on a university campus, it connects scientific study with the city’s long mining heritage and preserves a record of the Southwest’s mineral wealth and mining history.
