Mrs. Cecelia Morse started the first school in San Antonio in 1883. The Benedectine Sisters assumed administration in 1889. This red brick schoolhouse was built in 1922 at a cost of 22,000 dollars, eleven years after the adjacent church had been erected. The grotto and the wall facing the plaza were constructed in 1935 of native rock.
