The M46 Patton, also called the General Patton, was a medium tank weighing 48.5 tons, powered by a gas Continental V-12 air-cooled twin-turbo 810-horsepower engine and an Allison transmission with 2 speeds forward and 1 speed reverse. It had a top speed of 30 mph, an operational range of 80 miles, and a 5-man crew consisting of a driver, assistant driver and bow machine gunner, tank commander, gunner, and loader. Its armament included one 90 mm main gun with 70 rounds and two .30 caliber, 7.62 mm machine guns with 5,500 rounds, including one co-axial in the turret and one in the right front hull bow. It arrived in Korea on 08 August 1950 with the U.S. Army 6th Tank, was used by both the Army and Marines, had 1,160 manufactured, and was formally retired in 1957.
