This archaeological midden is the accumulation of trash from the people who lived here through the centuries, representing 2,400 years of discarded material. It contains pottery, stone tools, shell tools, and personal items like beads. Although the large number of shells suggests heavy shellfish use, archaeological testing showed that these people also ate a great deal of fish and terrestrial animals such as white-tailed deer. The archaeological record does not preserve the tremendous amount of plants these people also ate.
