Judge Joseph Lewis planted the Mother Orange Tree of Butte County at this spot in 1856. The Bidwell Bar Bridge, the first suspension bridge in California, was transported from New York via Cape Horn in 1853 and completed in 1856. It was dedicated to the pioneers of California by the Board of Supervisors of Butte County, Gold of Ophir Parlor No. 190 N.D.G.W., and Argonaut Parlor No. 8 N.S.G.W. on Nov. 27, 1926.
