The Venango Veterans Memorial Bridge once carried Cussewago Street over French Creek and was an historically significant example of a Pratt through truss bridge that played an important role in the local history of Venango Borough and Cambridge Township. Built of steel in 1893, it had two spans supported by two stone abutments and a central stone pier, and it reflected the state of the art in bridge engineering at the time, including steel I-beams supporting a timber deck instead of wood joist flooring and metal pins joining its parts. It also featured decorative metal lattice along the outside of the deck, the wooden pedestrian sidewalk, and the tops of its entry portals, with plaques above each portal giving the date of construction and naming the Wrought Iron Bridge Company as manufacturer. Designed and constructed by the Wrought Iron Bridge Company, a nationally prominent bridge manufacturer founded in 1864, the bridge was shipped to the site in disassembled components and erected there by expert builders. After more than 100 years of service facilitating the movement of goods and people and contributing to the well being of nearby communities and countryside, it was found eligible in 2001 for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places, closed to traffic in 2002 because of severe deterioration, and removed and dismantled in 2010 when rehabilitation was not feasible.
