Padre Canyon in Ivins, southwestern Utah, is a red-rock canyon within the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, where the Mojave Desert, Colorado Plateau, and Great Basin converge. Below Red Mountain and near Snow Canyon State Park, it features Navajo and Kayenta sandstone cliffs, arches, dunes, and formations such as Padre Rock and Padre Arch, alongside black lava shaped by faulting and later volcanic activity. People have used the wider area since the 5th century BC, including Ancestral Puebloans and Southern Paiute communities. In modern times, Orval Hafen settled land there, and Douglass Stewart helped create the Tuacahn Amphitheatre. Today it is valued for scenery, hiking, and protected desert wildlife.
