The World Trade Center rose to heights of 1,368 and 1,362 feet after ground was broken on August 5, 1965, and it opened in 1970-73, with a ribbon cutting on April 4, 1973. It was destroyed on September 11, 2001. A World Trade Center steel beam remnant bears the words, "Not just a piece of steel... But a piece of our hearts." It was dedicated on September 11, 2010.
