Murphey Candler Park is a 135-acre park in Brookhaven, Georgia, combining recreation facilities, green space, and Murphey Candler Lake. Planned in 1950 through land donations and acquired by DeKalb County in 1952, it was named for Charles Murphey Candler and opened after groundbreaking in 1954. For decades it served as the only major park for much of North DeKalb and remains that area’s largest park. The lake has repeatedly shaped the park’s history through flooding, dredging, and dam and spillway changes. The park also became a major center for youth baseball, softball, and swimming, including the founding of the Dynamo Swim Club.
