The Golden State Model Railroad Museum in Point Richmond, California, is an operating museum where trains from different eras run through detailed miniature city and countryside scenes on layouts in several scales. Growing out of the East Bay Model Engineers Society, founded in 1933 and recognized as one of the oldest continuously operating model railroad clubs in the United States, the museum reflects both craftsmanship and continuity. Construction of its current home began in 1986, and its exhibits include O, HO, and N scale recreations of notable California railroad locations, from the Oakland Mole and Tehachapi Loop to Donner Pass, preserving the state’s railroading heritage in motion.
