Mount Emmons is a 12,401-foot peak in the Elk Mountains of the Rockies in north-central Gunnison County, Colorado, within Gunnison National Forest about 4.2 miles west-northwest of Crested Butte. Locally known as Red Lady, it is a prominent mountain above the upper Gunnison country and helps define the rugged landscape around the town and surrounding forest. Its official name honors geologist Samuel Franklin Emmons, who also has another western peak in Utah named for him. With its high elevation, notable setting, and dual names, Mount Emmons stands out as an important geographic landmark near Crested Butte.
