Weir Farm National Historical Park in Ridgefield and Wilton, Connecticut, preserves the home and landscape associated with American impressionist J. Alden Weir and a wider community of artists including Childe Hassam, Albert Pinkham Ryder, John Singer Sargent, and John Twachtman. Established when Weir bought the farm in 1882, it served as both a working farm and an artistic refuge whose fields, ponds, and hills shaped paintings of the surrounding countryside. After passing through later artists and a major preservation effort, the site was restored and reopened to the public. It remains both a historic place and an active center for making art.
