Islip honors local men and women who served their country in the Great World War of 1917–1918, including those who gave their lives, and later added tributes to those remembered from World War II, to those who served in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, and to members of the armed forces of the United States who served in Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, the Persian Gulf War, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
