Anderson's Brigade of Ruggles' 1st Division, Bragg's Corps, Army of the Mississippi, consisted of the 20th Louisiana, 9th Texas, 1st Florida Battalion, and Confederate Guards Response Battalion, arranged from left to right in that order. At about 9 A.M. on April 6, 1862, it came up with Cleburne's brigade and joined it in an attack on the Union lines. Assisted by the brigades of Johnson and Russell, it carried the position at Shiloh Church at 10 A.M. The 20th Louisiana and 9th Texas were to the left of Pittsburg road, and the other regiments were on the right of the road.
