Marin Museum of Contemporary Art in San Rafael, California, was founded in 2007 after a longer local effort that began with the Indian Valley Artist group at the College of Marin in 1983, followed by studio space at Hamilton Air Force Base in 1993 and a gallery in 2005. It functions as both a museum and a working arts center, with galleries, more than fifty artist studios, classes, and a museum store. The organization presents more than ten exhibitions annually, supports more than 150 member artists, runs school and adult art programs, and continues in downtown San Rafael as a center for exhibitions, education, and studio practice.
