Flat Top Mountain is a 12,361-foot summit in the Flat Tops of northwestern Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, within the Flat Tops Wilderness near Oak Creek. Set on the drainage divide between Routt National Forest and White River National Forest, it is both the highest summit in the Flat Tops and the highest point in Garfield County. Its position on a broad high plateau helps define the landscape that gives this region its name. A subalpine climate bordering on alpine, with only one month averaging above 50 degrees Fahrenheit, shapes the mountain’s exposed terrain and the surrounding wilderness.
