The memorial honors the men and women of the Waverly area who served their country and especially remembers those who gave their lives in the cause of freedom in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. It was sponsored by The Woman’s Club of Waverly and erected in 1985 with donations from present and former citizens of the Waverly area. Those named are E. Hubert Council, Floyd A. Dunning, G. Robert England, Melvin R. Gay, Wesley E. Green, Theodore Harrison, Ernest Hill, Charlie B. Holtz, Frederick J. Landman, Charles L. Mason, Harold E. Raiford, C. Marshall Stephenson, William A. Higgins, James R. Ricks, Norman A. Grammer, and Walter C. Velvet, Jr.
