Rockwoods Reservation in St. Louis County, Missouri, is a 1,843-acre protected state forest and wildlife conservation area established in 1938 as one of the oldest areas created by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Near a major urban area and expanding suburbs, it still supports diverse native plants and animals, along with notable rock formations, springs, and caves. The land also preserves evidence of earlier industry, including forest cutting for lime kilns and remnants of limestone, clay, and gravel quarrying within second-growth hardwood forest. It connects to a larger green corridor with neighboring protected lands and a network of trails, including the 14.5-mile Greenrock Trail.
