Nature
Babler State Park in Wildwood, Missouri, began as a memorial to Dr. Edmund A. Babler, a Missouri-born surgeon known in St. Louis for his charitable work. After his death, his brothers Jacob and Henry Babler donated land to create the park, beginning in 1930 and expanding it with later gifts. New Deal support, including two Civilian Conservation Corps camps, helped develop the property, and Missouri accepted it in 1937 before dedicating it in 1938. Jacob L. Babler later played a major role in expanding Missouri’s state park system. Today the park serves both recreation and education and has been recognized as a historic district since 1985.
