Stono Mountain is a summit in St. Francois County in southeastern Missouri that rises 1,644 feet near Mineral City at the headwaters of Doe Run Creek along Missouri Route W. Although some sources show it as a hill, local usage also identifies it as a mountain. Little Stono Mountain stands immediately to its north. The origin of the name is uncertain: it may have been borrowed from South Carolina’s Stono River, though local tradition instead connects it to the stones found in the surrounding area.
