The Franklin Mineral Museum in Franklin, New Jersey, stands on the former Franklin Mine and preserves the history of one of the state’s notable mining areas through geology, mining, and mineral exhibits. The mine operated from 1898 into the mid-1950s, and the site became an open-air museum in 1964, giving it a direct link to the landscape and industry it presents. Its major features include more than 5,000 local mineral specimens, another collection of more than 5,000 minerals from outside the area, and a fluorescent minerals display known for its range of colors.
