Mountain Creek in Vernon Township, New Jersey, is a four-season resort built from the merger and redevelopment of the former Great Gorge and Vernon Valley ski areas, both begun in the 1960s. Over time it expanded beyond skiing into tubing, biking, zip-lines, an alpine coaster, and a water park. The resort became known for extensive night skiing, full snowmaking coverage, and innovations such as becoming the first U.S. ski area to use a jet engine for snowmaking compressors in 1970. After closures and bankruptcy in the 1990s and again in 2017, new owners restructured and modernized the property, including major snowmaking upgrades in 2024.
