On 15 May 1861, one hundred and forty six men swore allegiance to the South and became known as Company K, 6th Tennessee Infantry Regiment, C.S.A., the Denmark Danes. Only forty of the original company survived the four long years of war. They returned home to find their community in a state of total destruction. May they rest in peace.
