In March 1879, some of the first hardy, courageous pioneers to settle here were Mr. and Mrs. O.C. Fisher and son Will, Mr. and Mrs Albert Richardson, and Joseph Fisher and family. The first white child born was H.J. Fisher on 16 December 1879. The first public building was a combined log post office and the home of James and Anna Kearney, who forded the "Dry Bed Channel" of Snake River to bring mail to their central place, which became known as "Annie's Place." The Kearneys applied for postal service in 1886, and it was granted in 1896 under the name Annis. Little Butte Cemetery's first recorded burial was in 1879. Brush Canal combined with Island Irrigation Co. in 1886. C.A. Casper built a store in 1886 that included the millinery shop of Nancy Casper. Other early institutions and enterprises were Little Butte School in 1894, Utah Idaho Sugar Co. in 1908, and a beet dump by a railroad spur from Menan to Hawkins Grove in 1917.
