One of Zionsville’s first and finest hostelries stood on these grounds as a two story frame structure erected in Civil War days and razed in 1938. It served as a rooming house, meeting place, and at times the village social headquarters. Nearby stables fed and sheltered fine teams of horses for weary travelers, and salesmen known then as drummers often chose it for lodging after stepping from Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Lafayette Railroad trains that formerly went through Zionsville. It was known for delicious homecooked meals and cordial hospitality, a tradition the community still follows in Zionsville’s friendly people, attractive homes, and picturesque colonial village atmosphere.
